H.S. Football: Haverford runs wild, rolls past Penncrest

Haverford ran like it had somewhere to be Thursday night. The Fords piled up 543 yards of offense, 477 coming on the ground, and their ball carriers averaged 11.1 yards per carry in a 49-7 win over Penncrest at A.G. Cornog Stadium.
Barlow cuts through Penncrest in Strath Haven's Media Bowl Win

It took Landon Barlow a few minutes Thursday night to rid himself of the bandages wrapped around both forearms and biceps. There were about seven or eight in total, the Strath Haven running back with the bloody No. 3 jersey reckoned, the medical detritus strewn about the visiting sideline at Louis W. Scott Field.

Luke Valerio ran Friday night until the knot in his calf said he couldn’t anymore. When he stopped, his first praise was for his Springfield offensive line, then his quarterback, then the underclassmen who spelled him however briefly in the game. Such is the effect of Valerio, seen everywhere Friday in helping the top-seeded Cougars survive a valiant effort from No. 8 Penncrest in the District 1 Class 5A quarterfinals, 21-14.
